What we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and how to make us delete it.

Last updated recently

The short version

You can search Zainera without telling us who you are. We only learn your email if you choose to create an account, set a price alert, subscribe to the newsletter, save a gift reminder or write to us. We never take payment, so we never hold card details. We do not sell personal data, and we never have.

To have everything we hold about you deleted, email privacy@zainera.com from the address you used. You do not have to give a reason.

Who we are

Zainera is a fashion search engine operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], registered at [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. In data protection terms we are the controller of the data described on this page.

For anything about your data, including exercising any right below, write to privacy@zainera.com.

What we collect, and why

We have grouped this by what you were doing at the time, because that is how people actually remember giving something away.

When you just browse or search

  • Search terms and the filters you applied, along with how many results came back. Used to improve results and to show what is trending. Where you are not signed in, this is tied to a short-lived session identifier and not to you.
  • Which products get viewed and clicked. Used to rank results by what people actually find useful.
  • Basic technical data from your request — device type, browser, and an approximate region. IP addresses are hashed before storage; we do not keep the raw address.

None of this requires an account, and none of it asks for your name.

When you create an account

  • Your email address, and a display name if you give one.
  • Your password, hashed. We cannot read it, and neither can anyone who obtains the database.
  • Preferences you set, such as the department or currency you would rather see.
  • The time you last signed in, so we can spot unusual access.

When you save an item or set a price alert

  • Which products you saved, and the price at the moment you saved them, so we can tell when it has moved.
  • A target price, if you set one.
  • An email address to notify. If you set an alert without an account we hold the address and a browser token so the alert survives, and nothing else.

When you save a gift reminder

  • The label, date and relationship you entered — for example "Mum's birthday" and the day it falls on.
  • An email address for the weekly digest.

Please note that a reminder may describe somebody other than you. Keep it to what you need — a first name and a date is enough — and do not enter anything about another person you would not want stored.

When you subscribe to the newsletter

  • Your email address, optionally a name, and any category or department preferences you picked, so we can send something relevant rather than everything.

When you write to us

  • Your name, email, chosen topic and message, so we can answer.
  • The page you were on when you wrote, which usually explains the problem faster than the message does.
  • A hashed IP address and your browser's user agent, kept only to identify automated abuse of the form.

What we never collect

  • Payment details of any kind. We never take payment, so there is nothing to collect. When you follow a link to a retailer, the entire transaction happens on their site under their privacy policy.
  • Delivery addresses, order histories or anything else about what you actually bought. We do not receive it.
  • Special category data — health, beliefs, biometrics and the rest. We have no use for it and do not ask.

Why we are allowed to hold it

Emails we send

We only email you about something you set up:

  • Price-drop alerts, when something you saved falls in price.
  • One weekly gift-reminder digest, if you have reminders coming up. Never one email per reminder.
  • The newsletter, if you subscribed.
  • Service email — a password reset, or a reply to something you sent us.

Every non-service email carries a one-click unsubscribe. Alerts can also be switched off individually from your saved items without deleting the save.

Who else sees it

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. It reaches third parties only in these cases:

  • Hosting and email delivery providers, acting on our instructions under contract, purely to run the service.
  • Retailers — but only in the ordinary sense that following a link tells them a visitor came from Zainera. We do not pass them your email, your account or your saved items.
  • Where the law requires it, on a valid legal request.

How long we keep it

DataKept for
Search and click analyticsSix months, then deleted automatically
Account, saved items, alerts, remindersUntil you delete them or close the account
Newsletter subscriptionUntil you unsubscribe
Contact messagesTwo years, so we have the history of a conversation

An account left untouched for three years is deleted along with everything attached to it. We email you first.

Your rights

Wherever you live, we will honour all of these:

  • Access — ask what we hold about you and get a copy.
  • Correction — have anything wrong put right.
  • Deletion — have it erased. No reason required.
  • Objection and restriction — tell us to stop a particular use.
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — for anything based on it, at any time.

Email privacy@zainera.com from the address you signed up with and we will act within 30 days. If you are unhappy with how we handled it, you may complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Zainera is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us something, tell us and we will remove it.

Where your data is held

Our servers are located in [SERVER LOCATION / REGION]. Where data is transferred outside your own country, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored hashed, and IP addresses are hashed before storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we hold as little as we can get away with — which is the part that actually reduces the risk to you.

Changes to this policy

If we change it, the "last updated" date above changes with it. Where a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell account holders by email rather than quietly editing this page.
